Thanksgiving

 Hello!
Today we celebrate Thanksgiving!

And what's Thanksgiving?  Thanksgiving is a big celebration in the United States of America and Canada.

In the XVII century some pilgrims fron England traveled to America.

The traveled in a big ship called Mayflower.

When they arrived to America it was winter and they had no house or food.
They lived in the boat and they ate only fish.

In Spring the native americans helped them. They gave the pilgrims food and seeds.

When the pilgrims picked a big harvest in autumn they called the native americans and they had a big dinner together to celebrate the harvest and to say thanks to those who had helped them.

Now they remember that date having a dinner with our family and  being grateful for all the things we have; family, friends, house, school,  teachers ...

They have roasted turkey with a big variety of side dishes, and wonderful pies

Even the Simpsons celebrate Thanksgiving

I upload some photos of the Thanksgiving dinner and a colouring page .The map is in order not to get  lost.

Shrove Tuesday /Pancake Tuesday

Next Tuesday in England is Shrove Tuesday.
Shrove Tuesday (also known as  Pancake Tuesday and Pancake Day) is the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of LentLent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up.
So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren't allowed in Lent.
Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent.
Shrove comes from Shrive that means confess.
Shrove viene de Shrive que significa confesar.

Today I left you some recipes and a mind map about how to make a pancake.

On Pancake Day, "pancake races" are held in villages and towns across the United Kingdom.

The tradition is said to have originated when a housewife from Olney, Buckinghamshire, was so busy making pancakes that she forgot the time until she heard the church bells ringing for the service. She raced out of the house to church while still carrying her frying pan and pancake.
